It's important to know the best techniques for poaching and steaming. You will learn how these methods work and what you should do to improve your cooking skills. These techniques can be applied in everyday cooking. You can also look out for cookbooks that describe these cooking techniques in greater detail.

French cooking techniques

Traditional methods are the foundation of French cuisine. French chefs have long been known to place everything in its proper place and cook everything slowly at low temperatures. This method is known as Confit and involves slowly cooking a variety of foods in fat over a low heat. Similarly, they often use alcohol for sauces. Typically, flambeing is used for desserts, but the alcohol in it can be poured over the food while it is still cooking to impart its flavor.

Chinese cooking techniques

The traditional Chinese kitchen is filled with many complex techniques that can make your cooking more delicious. Stir-frying is one such technique. This involves heating oil in an open wok. Stir-frying involves quickly stirring the food until it achieves the desired texture. This is the easiest method and works well with small ingredients such as noodles and vegetables. Chinese cuisine can also be prepared using other cooking techniques to produce different results to stir-frying.

French technique for steaming

Steaming is a cooking method that creates a steady flow of hot air around food, retaining all of its nutrients without adding any additional fat. It is gentle and suitable for delicate foods, as steam has more heat than boiling. Food cooked this way cooks quickly with little loss of nutrients and natural color. This method is a delight for fruits and vegetables, as the French are long-standing masters.

Japanese technique of poaching

The Japanese have perfected poaching, a technique that slow cooks fish. This method involves vacuum sealing food in plastic bags and slow cooking it at low heat. This creates uniform texture and removes all aromatics. Here's how to poach salmon Japanese-style.

Vietnamese technique of boiling

It is simple, but very effective, to boil rice in the traditional Vietnamese way. This method involves steaming foods in metal or bamboo trays. This method preserves nutrients and does not use oil. It can also be used to make seafood and sticky-rice. It is especially helpful for vulnerable people living in developing nations who are heavily dependent upon water resources that are not yet improved. However, there are some precautions that should be taken.

How to make the perfect omelet

Omelets are one of my favorite foods to eat at breakfast. How can you make them perfectly? Many different recipes and methods have failed to work for me. I have some tips and tricks to help you make delicious, fluffy omelets every single morning.

It is important to know that eggs can be temperamental when making omelets. They must be fresh, preferably from the organic market, and be kept cold until cooking. They must be kept cool, otherwise the whites will not form properly and the yolks may become runny. This makes your omelets look weirdly colored. If you're going to cook them immediately, it is best if the eggs are still warm.

Another tip is to separate your egg before adding it into the pan. Because this could cause your omelet to become curdled, you don't want any yolk to be mixed with any white.

The bottom part of an egg that is added directly to the stovetop might be burned, which could cause a ruined texture in your omelet. Instead, microwave the egg for 10 seconds before adding it to the pan. The microwave heat cooks your egg just right, without it becoming too soft.

Let's now talk about mixing eggs. When you mix eggs together, you want to beat them well. To do this, take the bowl from the mixer and flip it upside-down. Then shake the bowl vigorously. By doing this, the egg is thoroughly mixed with the air in the bowl.

Now it's time to have fun: pour the milk into the mixture. Pour half the milk into the beaten egg mixture and then fold in the eggs. Do not worry if you see streaks of egg; they will disappear when the omelet is flipped.

After you have done folding the eggs, heat the pan on medium heat. The oil will start to smoke. Add 1/4 cup butter to the oil and swirl it around to coat all sides of the pan. Now carefully crack open the lid of the pan and sprinkle salt into the pan. A pinch of salt will help prevent the omelet from sticking to the pan.

Once the omelet has formed, cover the pan again and wait for the top side to set completely. Flip the omelet upside down or with a spatula. Cook the other half for another minute. Serve immediately after removing the omelet from its pan.

This recipe works best when you use whole milk.
