Voegtlin founded the diet on the belief that humans evolved into carnivores. Therefore, we should follow the same path. Voegtlin believed that humans are genetically identical to sheep and dogs and should therefore eat carnivorous food. Modern data supports the diet, which has mixed results but is generally positive.
